VEDL - Vedanta OK to restart oxygen production at Indian copper unit in COVID fight

Vedanta ([[VEDL]] +3.5%) shares jump after India's Tamil Nadu state authorized the company's shuttered copper smelter to restart its oxygen mill for medical purposes to help the country tackle its worsening COVID-19 crisis.The state government says it will supply electricity to the plant for four months and possibly longer if the current pandemic situation continues.Overcrowded hospitals in Delhi and elsewhere are turning away patients after running out of supplies of medical oxygen and beds as new coronavirus infections in India hit a record peak for five straight days.The smelter has been closed for nearly three years due to concerns about pollution.
