ESPO - Videogame sales hit $4.6B in February another monthly record
Videogame sales kept up a string of monthly records in February, hitting an all-time high of $4.6B industrywide for the month. That's up 35% from February 2020, with broad strength in every spending category as the number take advantage of favorable comps for at least one more month (with the anniversary of the COVID-19 impact about to roll through the figures). The February figures bring year-to-date spending to $9.312B, up 39% over the same period last year, according to NPD Group. They follow a January-record $4.7B in overall sales; a December-record $7.7B; and a November-record $7B. Again, hardware sales leapt based on the new-generation platforms, up 121% in February to $406M. Accessories sales rose 41%, to $195M, and content sales rose a healthy 30% to $3.998B.
