SQNNY - Videogame sales hit $5.6B in March another industry record
Another month, another sales record for the videogame industry. March figures became the latest in a string of monthly records, logging $5.61B overall industrywide. That figure is up 18% from March 2020, with gains in all categories - notable as the figures are starting to lap COVID-19 pandemic comparisons and that month's onset of lockdowns. The year-to-date total is $14.92B, up 30% from the same period in 2020, according to NPD Group. And the $5.61B for March follows a February-record $4.6B in overall sales; a January-record $4.7B; a December-record $7.7B; and a November-record $7B. Hardware was another source of strength with still-fresh new-generation consoles from Sony (SONY) and Microsoft (MSFT) streaming out to buyers.
