RDI - Warner's 'Dune' blasts to top of box office with $40 million
Dune (T -0.1%) surpassed expectations at the weekend box office, grossing $40.1 million domestically to easily outpace a decent crop of strong performers from the last four weekends. Its performance was particularly notable considering it broke a streak of relatively disappointing numbers from Warner Bros. films that simultaneously debuted on HBO Max, as Dune did - and that the complex story is considered fairly difficult to sell to cinema audiences. With strong international results so far, Dune - a relatively expensive production - has executives breathing easier having piled up a worldwide total of $220.7 million to date. And it's brought the best three-day total for a Warner film since the company launched its 2021 day-and-date simultaneous release strategy. It easily bumped last week's leader, Halloween Kills (CMCSA -0.3%), which drew $14.5 million in its second weekend, as well as No Time to Die (OTC:MGMB), which saw $11.9 million in
