WZZAF - Wizz Air suspends flights to Moldova amid security concerns

The Civil Aviation Authority confirmed on Monday that Hungarian airline Wizz Air ( OTCPK:WZZAF ) has suspended flights to and from Chisinau International Airport starting from March 14.

The airline cited safety and security reasons concerns over Moldovan airspace as the rationale for canceling flights to the national capital.

“The decision taken by Wizz Air created uncertainty considering that on February 14 the air operator requested the approval of the flight schedule for the summer season, and today it was approved by the [Civil Aviation Authority],” the agency said. “Following the risk analysis, the state institutions determined that flights in the national airspace can be carried out safely, applying a series of procedures in this regard, and regret the sudden decision taken by Wizz Air.”

The agency said it would work to attract other low-cost carriers in Wizz’s stead.
