Algoma Steel ( NASDAQ: ASTL ) and United Steelworkers local union representing the company's hourly employees said on Tuesday that they reached a tentative labor agreement , likely avoiding a looming strike.
The USW Local 2251 bargaining committee recommends the offer, and the parties agreed to extend the current contract until August 30 to allow for a ratification vote scheduled for August 25 and August 29.
The latest deal follows the agreement with the United Steelworkers local representing the company's technical, professional and front-line supervisory employees ratified last month .
