Apple's ( NASDAQ: AAPL ) App Store, Google's ( GOOG ) ( GOOGL ) Play Store, Search and other services are now subject to European Union content rules, EU Commissioner Thierry Breton said on Tuesday.
In a talk with reporters, Breton said 19 companies in total - including Pinterest ( PINS ), Wikipedia, TikTok, Microsoft's ( MSFT ) Bing and Amazon's ( AMZN ) Marketplace - are now subject to purvey under the Digital Services Act.
"We consider these 19 online platforms and search engines have become systematically relevant and have special responsibilities to make the internet safer," Breton said, according to Reuters .
The DSA requires companies or services with more than 45M monthly active users to conduct external and internal auditing, as well as share data with authorities and researchers.
