As the name implies, Chicago Atlantic BDC ( LIEN ) is structured as a business development company that generates its earnings by providing capital to middle-market businesses looking to develop and expand their operations. What makes LIEN so unique is that the portfolio is specifically focused on businesses within the cannabis industry. When I previously covered LIEN, I issued a hold rating due to the limited NAV growth and weaker dividend coverage.
