GOF’s current yield seems more attractive than PTY
I last compared PIMCO Corporate and Income Opportunity Fund ( PTY ) and the Guggenheim Strategic Opportunities Fund ( GOF ) on July 7. That article was titled “PTY Vs. GOF: This Chart Tells Me To Stay Away From GOF”. The chart I was referring to was a chart showing that the credit spreads at the time were near the thinnest levels in the past 4 decades or so. This observation made me favor PTY (which I rated as a hold) over GOF (which I rated as a sell) due to the following considerations:
This leads us to see a poor reward/risk ratio for Guggenheim Strategic Opportunities Fund, given its large exposure to high-yield corporate bonds. PIMCO Corporate and Income Opportunity Fund is better positioned than GOF due to its larger allocation to government securities.
