- Invitae ( NYSE: NVTA ) shares surged over 10% during extended trading after the medical genetics company announced leadership changes, with COO Kenneth Knight taking over as CEO and as a member of the board of directors, effective immediately.
- Knight succeeds Sean George, who will serve as a consultant to the company through a transition period and continue as a member of the board.
- As CEO, Knight will focus on Invitae's ( NVTA ) core, more profitable business lines and help streamline the company's cost structure. He held the COO role since June 2020.
- In other changes, Randy Scott, Invitae's co-founder, former CEO from 2012 to 2017, and former executive chairman from 2017 to 2019, is returning to the company as chairman of the board.
- Additionally, Eric Aguiar, who has served as the firm's independent chairman since 2019 and a member of the board since 2010, is now serving as lead independent director.
