Vancouver, BC, Canada – TheNewswire - February 16, 2021 – Rock Tech Lithium Inc. (the"Company" or “Rock Tech”) (TSXV:RCK ) ; ( Frankfurt:RJIB) is pleasedto announce that it has engaged ALS Metallurgy (“ALS”) to conductpilot scale test programs, under supervision from Wave International(“Wave”).
To confirm its lithium hydroxide flowsheet and process engineeringparameters, in support of engineering development, a series of pilotscale tests will be completed for both the industry standard sulphateprocess and Rock Tech’s innovative and patent-pending NitrateProcess.
ALS have been awarded the first stage of the pilot program, which isbased on a traditional sulphation route process flowsheet provided byWave. The feed source for this stage one pilot will be lithiumsulphate (from various sources), demonstrating the robustness of theproposed plant to receive intermediary lithium products (other thanspodumene concentrate).
The pilot program was commenced last week at ALS’ facilities inPerth, Western Australia, under supervision and management by Wave. The program will not only validate the commercial scale flowsheet asoutlined above but will also provide a first round of Battery GradeLithium Hydroxide Monohydrate sample material for ongoing offtakediscussions.
ALS is a leading testing, inspection, certification and verificationcompany headquartered in Brisbane, Australia, that has built itsreputation around technical innovation, quality, a deep clientunderstanding, and by being a true technical services partner to manycompanies across a broad spectrum of end markets covering mostgeographies. ALS provides vital process flowsheet operating data for engineering design, scale-up purposes, process plant upgrade and production of marketing samples. Further,ALS have previously completed various Lithium Hydroxide testworkprograms.
Future pilot plant stages will include a second round pilot for thetraditional route (producing lithium hydroxide from spodumeneconcentrates), and a further pilot of the innovate patent-pendingNitrate Process. The future stages will include spodumene feed fromthe Company’s 100%-owned Georgia Lake lithium project in Ontario,Canada, in addition to feed secured from existing and emergingproducers.
“We are planning a lithium hydroxide converter with a capacity of24,000 tonnes per annum so we will rely, to a certain extent, onadditional sources to complement our Georgia Lake feed,” said DirkHarbecke, Rock Tech’s chairman. “As such, understanding thebehaviour of a variety of different feed sources will be invaluablefor optimizing process design. Importantly, the pilot programs willprovide lithium hydroxide samples which are invaluable for customerqualification as offtake discussions intensify.”
Additionally, the Company announces that it has granted 1,480,000stock options to directors, officers, employees and consultants of theCompany. The stock options have an exercise price of $4.21 per shareand will expire on February 16, 2023.
