- Samsung ( OTCPK:SSNLF ) announced expansion plans for its semiconductor foundry unit on Wednesday, with an emphasis on leading edge processors.
- At the company's 7th annual Samsung Foundry Forum, the South Korean tech giant said it would start applications of its 2 nanometer process for mobile apps, occurring in 2025, with expansion to high performance computing in 2026 and automotive in 2027.
- Samsung ( OTCPK:SSNLF ) also said that it would start foundry services for 8-inch gallium nitride (GaN) power semiconductors targeting consumer, data center and automotive applications in 2025.
- The company said its 5 nanometer process for radio frequency is under development and will be available in the first half of 2025 and automotive applications are coming to 8 and 14 nanometer radio frequency processes.
- Samsung ( OTCPK:SSNLF ) also said it was expanding its chip manufacturing capabilities, bringing on new lines in previously announced areas in South Korea and Texas.
- South Korean-based Samsung ( OTCPK:SSNLF ) competes with Taiwan Semiconductor ( TSM ) and GlobalFoundries ( GFS ) in the industry and builds chips for companies such as Qualcomm ( QCOM ), IBM ( IBM ), Apple ( AAPL ) and others.
