S&P 500 futures were flat Tuesday as investors look toward the release of economic data later this week.
Futures for the Dow Jones Industrials gained 14 points at 33,765.
Futures for the S&P 500 eked up 1.75 points to 4,138.
Futures for the NASDAQ Composite faded 21.75 points, or 0.2%, to 13,136.50.
Investors seemed to be preparing for the March readings of the consumer price index, due Wednesday, and the producer price index, out Thursday. Both inflation metrics could give further insight into how the Federal Reserve might proceed on its rate-hiking campaign.
In other economic releases, the National Federation of Independent Business will be issuing the latest results of its small business index before the market opens.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.1% Tuesday, while in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng advanced 0.8%.
Oil prices sank 22 cents to $79.52 U.S. a barrel.
Gold prices advanced $12.40 to $2,016.20 U.S. an ounce.
