Total active drilling rigs in the U.S. rose by 6 to 680, breaking a winning streak of nine straight weeks, Baker Hughes said Friday in its latest weekly survey .
The total rig count was 9.5% below the 752 rigs reported at the same time last year.
But drilling rigs targeting crude oil in the U.S. fell for the fourth straight week, down by 5 to 540, while gas rigs surged by 11 to 135 and 5 rigs were counted as miscellaneous.
Rigs targeting oil in the Permian Basin dropped by 6 to 330 while oil rigs in the Eagle Ford lost 1 to 59.
