Total active drilling rigs in the U.S. fell by 5 to 664, the lowest count since March 2022, according to the latest weekly survey from Baker Hughes.
The total rig count is down 103, or 13%, from the same time last year.
Drilling rigs targeting crude oil fell by 1 to 529, gas rigs shed 3 to 128, and 7 rigs were classified as miscellaneous.
Rigs targeting crude oil in the Permian Basin added 1 to 324, and oil rigs in the Eagle Ford dropped by 2 to 55.
Oil rigs fell by 16 rigs in July, their eighth consecutive monthly decline, while gas rigs gained 4, their first increase in three months.
