FTLS: Reaffirming My Buy Recommendation

Introduction
Last year, I recommended the First Trust Long/Short Equity ETF (FTLS) as a Buy. Since then, it has generated a nice 7.50% return compared to the S&P 500’s return of 10.54%. My thesis was that it was the best available hedged ETF. That thesis remains true, but there is more urgency this year than there was last year. This year, we are facing a stock market that is at all-time highs with frothy multiples. I contend that it is time to start playing some defense and shore up our hedging strategies....
