Introduction
I just received a proxy statement as an owner of the Nuveen Select Tax-Free Income Portfolio ( NXP ), asking me to vote in favor of merging both the Nuveen California Select Tax-Free Income Portfolio ( NXC ) and Nuveen New York Select Tax-Free Income Fund ( NXN ) into NXP. I voted no, as accepting those assets “as is” would overweight NXP with bonds from two states losing population and already taxing their residents to death....
