Re-2Ox hydrometallurgical systemaddresses arsenic barrier to battery metals recovery

Coquitlam, B C – TheNewswire - June 23, 2025 - NordPrecious Metals Mining Inc. (TSX-V: NTH | OTCQB: CCWOF | FRANKFURT:4T9B) announced today it has secured $200,000 in funding from theMining Innovation Commercialization Accelerator (MICA) Network toadvance its Re-2Ox technology from Technology Readiness Level 6 to TRL7, positioning the system for commercial deployment and licensingopportunities.

The funding, part of MICA's fourth Call for Proposals announced on June15 th in Toronto, will support a1,000-hour pilot demonstration at Nord's Temiskaming Testing Labs(TTL) facility in Cobalt, Ontario. This real-world operationalenvironment will generate the performance data required to bridge whatthe industry terms the "valley of death" – the criticaltransition from validated technology to commercial viability.

"The mining sector has a fundamental arsenicproblem that constrains globalmineral processing capacity ,"said Frank J. Basa, B.Eng., CEO of Nord Precious Metals. "Currentsolutions either avoid arsenic-bearing feeds entirely or incurprohibitive disposal costs. Re-2Ox is able toprocess arsenic-bearing feeds and represents aparadigm shift by transforming a substantial per-tonne liability intoa margin-positive operation while recovering critical mineralsessential to the energy transition."

Market Opportunity and TechnologyDifferentiation

Nord's technology addresses a substantial and growingmarket opportunity:

The Re-2Ox process achieves what incumbent technologiescannot: economic processing of high-arsenic feeds with simultaneousrecovery of silver, cobalt, nickel, and manganese. Key performancemetrics include:

  • Arsenic capture: 99% as stablescorodite/copper-arsenate

  • Energy consumption: 80% reduction versuspyrometallurgical processing

  • Modular design: 40-foot shipping container formatenabling rapid scaling

Strategic Alignment with CriticalInfrastructure Needs

The MICA investment validates Nord's approach toaddressing multiple policy imperatives simultaneously. As noted by MICA NetworkDirector Chamirai Charles Nyabeze:"Supporting SMEs is not only vital for our economy—it isessential for accelerating the energy transitionglobally."

Nord's integrated processing model leverages existingTTL infrastructure – the district's only permitted mineralprocessing facility – while offering multiple commercializationpathways:

  1. Direct Operations : Initial pilot demonstration scaling to commercialmodules

  2. Technology Licensing : Post-TRL 7 validation enables global deployment throughequipment leasing and royalty structures

  3. Toll Processing : Immediate revenue generation from third-party feedsrequiring arsenic remediation

Technical Validation and CommercialReadiness

The transition to TRL 7 represents a criticalinflection point. SGS Lakefield's independent validation, working intandem with MICA's endorsement, will provide the technical foundationfor:

  • Equipment financing partnerships

  • Offtake agreements with metals traders

  • Flow-through funding for critical mineralsproduction

  • Specialized grant programs requiring third-partyverification

Previous bench-scale testing has demonstrated theprocess's ability to produce:

  • Battery-grade cobalt sulfate (22.6% CoSO?·6H?O)meeting Tier 1 specifications

  • Silver recovery to dor

  • Nickel sulfate at 81% recovery

  • Stable arsenic disposal product passing regulatoryleach tests

"The 1,000-hour pilot at our TTL facility willdemonstrate continuous operation in a production environment,"explained Basa. "This isn't laboratory validation – it'sreal-world proof of a technology that can be deployed globallywherever arsenic constrains mineral processing."

Competitive Landscape and MarketPosition

The Re-2Ox technology stands alone in addressing theindustry's most challenging feeds. Traditional pyrometallurgicalsmelters impose penalties or outright rejection for arsenic-bearingconcentrates, while their fixed infrastructure requires massivecapital investment and faces increasingly stringent emissionsregulations. These facilities are geographically constrained andcannot economically process lower-grade or complex feeds.

Emerging modular technologies from companies developingelectrowinning and ion-exchange platforms have generated significantinterest but uniformly require pre-cleaned feeds with minimal arseniccontent. These systems excel at producing high-purity metals fromalready-refined solutions but cannot handle the complex mineralogytypical of legacy tailings or refractory ores. The pre-treatmentrequired to prepare feeds for these technologies often negates theireconomic advantages.

Bio-leaching approaches, while environmentallyattractive, suffer from prohibitively slow kinetics and poor preciousmetals recovery. Residence times measured in weeks or months, combinedwith strict temperature and pH requirements, limit their applicationto niche operations with specific mineralogy and climateconditions.

Re-2Ox's containerized design enables deployment at anysite with basic infrastructure – power, water, and road access. Theclosed-loop chemistry eliminates liquid discharge while producingstable, saleable arsenic products rather than hazardous wasterequiring perpetual management. This combination of mobility, environmental compliance, and multi-metal recovery creates a uniquevalue proposition for mining operations worldwide.

"We're not competing with existing technologies– we're addressing the feeds they can't or won't process,"noted Basa. "Every tonne of high-arsenic material thatconventional processors reject becomes our opportunity. With provenchemistry, validated economics, and a deployment model that minimizescapital risk, Re-2Ox is positioned to unlock value from resources theindustry has written off."

Path to Commercialization

With Recovery Permit submission scheduled for July 1,2025 under Ontario's streamlined 80-day review process, Nordanticipates:

  • Pilot commissioning and operational data collection inlate 2025

  • SGS validation report and commercial module financingin early 2026

  • First commercial deployment mid-2026

  • Global rollout targeting multiple operational modulesacross key mining jurisdictions

Douglas Morrison, President and CEO of CEMI and MiningAdvisor to MICA, emphasized the broaderimplications: "CEMI's role is toensure that innovation doesn't stop in the lab – it must progress tothe mine site where it can increase productivity, reduce environmentalimpact and strengthen our global competitiveness."

For Nord, that progression represents both immediaterevenue opportunity and long-term technology licensing potentialacross a global market measured in hundreds of billionsof tonnes of stranded value.

About Nord Precious Metals MiningInc.

Nord Precious Metals Mining Inc. operates the onlypermitted high-grade milling facility in the historic Cobalt Camp ofOntario, where the Company has established a unique positionintegrating high-grade silver discovery with strategic metals recoveryoperations. The Company's flagship Castle property encompasses 63 sq.km of exploration ground and the past-producing Castle Mine, complemented by the Castle East discovery where drilling hasdelineated 7.56 million ounces of silver in Inferredresources grading an average of 8,582g/t Ag (250.2 oz/ton) in 27,400 tonnes of material from two sections(1A and 1B) of the Castle East Robinson Zone, beginning at a verticaldepth of approximately 400 meters. Note that mineral resources thatare not mineral reserves and do not have demonstrated economicviability. Please refer to the Nord Precious Metals PressRelease May 27, 2020, for theresource estimate.

Nord's integrated processing strategy leverages thesynergistic value of multiple metals. High-grade silver recoverysupports the economics of extracting critical minerals includingcobalt, nickel, and other battery metals, while the Company'sproprietary Re-2Ox hydrometallurgical process enables production oftechnical-grade cobalt sulphate and nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC)formulations. This multi-metal approach, combined with establishedinfrastructure including TTL Laboratories and underground mine access, positions Nord to capitalize on both precious metals markets and thegrowing demand for battery materials.
