New York Mortgage Trust: Newest Baby Bond Presents Highest Yield

Introduction

New York Mortgage Trust, Inc ( NYMT ) is a real estate investment trust that invests in mortgages, also known as an mREIT. The company’s common shares, like many mREITs, pay a high dividend, currently yielding over 12%. In addition to common shares, the company offers four different preferred shares, with one ( NYMTM ) currently floating at a dividend yield over 11%. Since my last article on the company issuing a second baby bond, a third baby bond ( NYMTH ) has come out. While I advocated for the baby bond maturing in April 2030 ( NYMTG ) in my last article , the newest baby bond has a higher coupon and yield to maturity, which I believe will be a good fit for fixed income investors....
