The Global X Russell 2000 Covered Call ETF ( RYLD ) sells monthly at the money call options on a replication of the Russell 2000 Index (full replication using the Global X Russell 2000 ETF). The emphasis is on small-cap US stocks in real physical holdings (vs. synthetic replication) that provide capital appreciation potential. The option sell layer is intended to earn premiums if it expires lower than the strike. The conservative yield (relatively speaking in a covered call ETF world) of ~12% indicates the income is significantly expected from the option income. However, there could be periods where underlying capital is returned. Typically that should happen when the option layer is not earning, i.e., the underlying is appreciating (so the appreciation can be paid out)....
