Rose’s Income Garden / RIG was created November 2021 to mimic my own personal 87 investment portfolio. $1 million value level was used to start. It should be noted in its name it is an “Income” portfolio with emphasis on dividend paying stocks. It sits now, 4 years later at $1.49 million with a 48.9% total return 57% of that being dividend gains. The original 87 investments has “shrunk” to 78 but putting those changes aside, what holds true is that it has a 6.3% forward yield and is up 12.9% YTD. Since inception it has been measured against SPY and was quite a bit higher to start but is now slightly lower in value by 2.2%. It is a wonderful income provider through owning financial sector investments and fewer growth or technology stocks which is a major reason its value is not for growth. The financial sector is complicated holding preferred shares, mREITs and BDCs. I personally consider preferred shares to almost be like a cash parking lot as if they are bought under par value they can be redeemed easily and quickly for profit, not so easily for the others.
