Amedisys ( NASDAQ: AMED ) has received a request from the US Department of Justice for more information regarding its planned merger with UnitedHealth Group ( NYSE: UNH ), a development that could significantly extend the timetable for the $3.29B deal.
The healthcare services provider said in a filing made Thursday that it had received a "second request" from the DOJ on Aug. 4.
In May, Amedisys announced it had agreed to be acquired by Option Health Care ( OPHC ) through an all-stock deal that valued Amedisys at $97.38 per share. Amedisys pulled out of the deal in July, opting instead to be acquired by United Health's Optum division for $101 per share in cash, or around $3.29B.
The second request comes amid reports that the DOJ has launched an antitrust probe into the managed care sector.
