YINN - Asia-Pacific markets mixed as traders react to the latest Chinese PMI figures

Japan +0.88% . Japan Industrial Production (July, preliminary) -2.0% m/m (vs. expected -1.4%).

Japan Retail Sales (July) +6.8% y/y (vs. expected +5.4%).

Japan's housing starts declined by 6.7 percent year-on-year in July 2023, worse than market forecasts of a 0.8 percent drop and after a 4.8% fall a month earlier.

China -0.50%. China August Manufacturing PMI 49.7 (vs. expected 49.2).

Hong Kong -0.24%.

India -0.07%.

Australia +0.10% . Australian data - Private sector credit in July +0.3% m/m from +0.3% in June.

Australian data - Q2 Capex headline rose 2.8% vs. +1.2% expected.

Private new capital expenditure on buildings and structures in Australia rose on a seasonally-adjusted basis by 3.5% in the second quarter of 2023.

New Zealand August Business Confidence -3.7% (vs. prior -13.1).

South Korean industrial output in July -2.0% m/m (vs. expected -0.4%).

Thailand's industrial production declined for the tenth straight month to 4.43% year-on-year in July 2023, more than market forecasts of a 4% drop.

Singapore bank loans decreased to SGD 786.5 billion in July 2023 from SGD 799.3 billion in the previous month.

In the U.S. on Wednesday, all three major indexes ended higher , as investors digested fresh economic data that could persuade the US Federal Reserve to stop raising interest rates in September. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite rose 0.54% to close at 14,019.31 points. The S&P gained 0.39% to settle at 4,515.00 points, while the Dow added 0.11% to finish at 34,890.77 points.

Gold prices firmed near one-month highs on Thursday, with US inflation data on tap. Spot gold was up 0.2% at $1,945.40 per ounce by 0331 GMT. U.S. gold futures steadied at $1,972.40. Among other metals, spot silver eased 0.3% to $24.59 per ounce, having climbed to a more than one-month high on Wednesday.

Platinum steadied at $974.13 as it heads for its second consecutive monthly gain. Palladium climbed 0.9% to $1,232.98, but was set for a 4% monthly fall.
