ERF - Canadian oil producers jump after long holiday break
Canadian energy stocks rally as Toronto markets re-open after a four-day Christmas break, catching up with U.S. names that rose earlier this week along with higher oil prices. Among today's top gainers: MEG Energy (OTCPK:MEGEF +5.2%), Birchcliff Energy (OTCPK:BIREF +5.4%), Baytex Energy (OTCPK:BTEGF +4.5%), ARC Resources (OTCPK:AETUF +4.2%), Whitecap Resources (OTCPK:SPGYF +1.1%). Crescent Point Energy (CPG -2.3%), Cenovus Energy (CVE -0.8%), Suncor Energy (SU -0.1%) and Enerplus (ERF -1.2%) are up sharply in Toronto but down today in New York after posting strong gains to start the week. Canadian Natural Resources (CNQ +0.7%), Ovintiv (OVV +1.4%) and Imperial Oil (IMO +0.4%) trade modestly higher in New York while rising substantially in Toronto. Seeking Alpha contributor Fishtown Capital says Cenovus Energy is its largest position, calling it "the best way to play a strong crude environment in 2022."
