alvarez/E+ via Getty Images Acknowledging the problem of the delta variant and a high number of unvaccinated individualas, the CDC this afternoon has now mandated that masks be worn in public spaces in areas with substantial and high levels of COVID-19 transmission. The CDC is defining substantial and high levels of transmission as follows: Substantial is 500-100 cases per 100K people over a 7-day period, while high is more than 100 cases per 100K people per 7-day period. On an afternoon media call, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky noted there have been some areas with transmission rates of more than 300 cases per 100K over a 7-day period. The CDC's COVID-19 Integrated County View allows individuals to find out if the new mandate applies to their county.
