CME - CME ADV drops 12% in January weighed by equity
- CME ( NASDAQ: CME ) said Thursday its average daily volume in January dropped 12% Y/Y to 21.7M contracts, its first such decline since 2020, led by weakness in equity index products.
- Equity index ADV slid 23% to 6.7M contracts, while interest rate ADV fell 4% to 10.3M contracts. Options ADV stood at 4.8M contracts.
- Energy ADV slid 14% to 2M contracts, agricultural ADV decreased 10% to 1.2M contracts.
- But foreign exchange ADV grew 4% to 807K contracts, and metals ADV increased 9% to 625K contracts.
- SOFR ADV grew 499% Y/Y. CME ( CME ) reported record monthly SOFR options ADV of 1.8M contracts, with record open interest of ~34M contracts on January 31.
- Earlier, CME ( CME ) wrapped up 2022 with record international ADV, driven by strong growth in equity index and foreign exchange products .
