DM - Desktop Metal acquires commercial rights to Harvard's biofabrication platform
Phuchit/iStock via Getty Images Desktop Metal (DM) subsidiary Desktop Health has acquired the PhonoGraft biofabrication platform, which is being studied for its potential use in an implantable device to repair damaged eardrums. The device would have a programmable biodegradable 3D printed graft that could be minimally invasive and offer patients shorter procedure times and improved outcomes. Desktop Metal received an exclusive license to commercialize the platform from Harvard's Office of Technology Development. “We believe that this platform may one day offer a groundbreaking solution to the millions of patients impacted by tympanic membrane perforation ((TMP)),” says Michael Jafar, President and CEO of Desktop Health. “PhonoGraft material technology, coupled with our leading biofabrication capabilities, has tremendous potential across a wide range of healthcare applications in soft tissue – from cardiovascular and neuronal grafts to plastic surgery.
