GM - General Motors Unviels New GMC Sierra EV

General Motors (NYSE: GM) has revealed its newest electric pickup, the electric GMC Sierra. Additionally, the company has begun taking reservations for a fully-loaded USD107,000 version, called Sierra EV Denali Edition 1, on Thursday.

“This is the Denali of EVs — and a truck that is every bit a GMC,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC. “That means it leaves nothing on the table when it comes to hauling, towing and overall power while unlocking even more possibilities around what a GMC pickup can offer.”

The automaker aims to exclusively sell EVs by 2035 and is well on its way amid current massive demand for the GMC Hummer EV and Chevy Silverado.

“When it comes to Sierra EV, we’re delighted that it’s the third EV in our brand — the only brand in the industry with three EV trucks and really setting GMC up to be the leader in this EV truck space,” GMC and Buick Global Vice President Duncan Aldred said during the Sierra reveal.

One of the biggest differences between the GMC Sierra EV and the GMC’s wild Hummer is the new truck’s classic pickup shape. GMC brand chief Duncan Aldred stated that this was part of the company’s strategy.

“It’s going to attract different customers, more traditional truck buyers, whereas the Hummer EV has been attracting people from all brands, people out of exotic sports cars, for example,” Aldred said during a media briefing on Thursday. “With the Hummer EV, we found that 70% of customers with reservations are new to EVs, and about 75% of them are new to the GMC brand.”
