WEN - Greggs: Why I'd Buy Their Food But Not Their Stock

I recently returned from a trip to the UK – a combined work trip, family holiday, and visit of family/friends – and found myself visiting Greggs plc ( GGGSY , GGGSF , LSE: GRG) on several occasions. In fact, I visited four different Greggs shops in England and Northern Ireland a total of 7 or 8 times. I considered this high frequency and not necessarily representative of a typical customer or for me in general. However, I was on a tight budget and found Greggs to be the most convenient and affordable option where I was—mainly my hometown of Bournemouth, but also Norwich, Belfast and Coleraine. Gratifyingly, I found that my own experiences as a customer aligned with the company’s marketing slogan, to offer "great quality, freshly prepared food at low prices with friendly service." In general, I loved the speedy service and decent mix of different menu items on offer (hot drinks, sandwiches, pasties, meat slices, donuts etc.), but I admit to only ever going there for breakfast and lunch....
