IEI tracks the results of an index composed of Treasury securities, with remaining maturities between 3 and 7 years.
The ETF currently sports a 4.68-years duration, and its performance is driven by the 5-year point in the treasuries curve.
5-year rates have touched their decade-long high achieved in 2018, causing the ETF to experience its worst drawdown in the past ten years.
With the Fed rhetoric now changing to potentially a pause at the September meeting, we now feel the bulk of the move higher in rates is behind us.
