The consumer confidence index in Japan ticked up to 36.2 in June of 2023 from 36 in the previous month, matching market forecasts of 36.2.

It was the highest reading since January 2022, as the economy recovered further from pandemic disruptions.

Households' sentiment strengthened for both employment (up 0.3 points to 43.1) and income growth (up 1.0 points to 38.9), while overall livelihood was unchanged (at 32.9).

By contrast, the household’s sentiment for the willingness to buy durable goods deteriorated (down 0.4 points to 29.9).
