JEQ - Japan jobless rate rises to 14-month high to 2.8% in March

Japan’s unemployment rate unexpectedly rose to 2.8% in March 2023 from 2.6% in February, above market consensus of 2.5%.

This was the highest reading since January 2022, as the number of unemployed increased by 150 thousand to 1.95 million, the highest since February 2021; while employment was up by 170 thousand to 67.31 million.
The non-seasonally adjusted labor force participation rate was at 62.6 percent in March, unchanged from the same month the previous year. -
A year earlier, the unemployment rate was at 2.6 percent.

Meanwhile, the jobs-to-applications ratio unexpectedly fell to a seven-month low of 1.32 in March from 1.34 in February.
