Industrial production in Japan dropped by 0.9% month-over-month in November 2023, unrevised from a flash reading and following a 1.3% growth in the prior month.

Yearly, industrial output dropped by 1.4% in November, the first fall in three months, and after a 1.1% increase in October.

Japan's core machinery orders, which exclude those for ships and electric power companies, fell 4.9% month-on-month in November 2023, reversing from a 0.7% gain in October and coming in worse than market expectations for a 0.8% decline.

On an annual basis, private-sector machinery orders declined by 5% in November, accelerating from a 2.2% drop in October and defying forecasts for a 0.2% gain.
