Nestlé (NSRGY) says that its Gerber baby cereals made in China are safe - a pushback against social media posts this weekend sharing a notice from a Chinese association advising members to stop selling the products. Nestlé has reported that group, the Maternal and Child Industry Committee of China Commercial Economy Society, to authorities. The association's notice said Gerber products contain toxic metals "to a dangerous degree" and cited a U.S. congressional report. But a spokesman for the FDA said it was reviewing the report, and that toxic elements in the environment enter the food supply through soil, water or air. Nestlé says food safety warnings in China are only allowed to be published by the State Council, and so the association had confused the public and damaged its reputation.
