ERI - Strong month for sports betting helps New Jersey to positive September
The handle for New Jersey's online and retail sportsbooks soared 68% to $748.6M in September. 91% of the total sports bets were placed online. Sports wagering revenue of $45.1M was recorded by operators. "September was a once-in-a-lifetime moment on the sports calendar when all four major U.S. sports were playing meaningful games all at once, which was obviously a boon for sportsbooks," says PlayNJ.com lead analyst Dustin Gouker. FanDuel (PDYPY) Sportsbook/PointsBet topped the market with $25.1M, Resorts Digital/DraftKings/Fox Bet (DKNG) churned up $4.8M and BetMGM/Borgata recorded $3.7M in revenue. Total gaming revenue in New Jersey including slots, table games, other casino games, Internet gaming and sports betting was up 6.5% to $323.3M in September. Brick-and-mortar casinos in the state include Caesars Atlantic City Hotel & Casino (CZR), Tropicana Atlantic City (ERI), Bally's (TRWH), Golden Nugget (owned by Landry's), Harrah's (CZR) and Borgata (MGM).
