LMT - Switzerland picks Lockheed's F-35 Lightning II for air defense
Switzerland's government selects Lockheed Martin's ([[LMT]] +1.1%) F-35 Lighting II fighter jets for a 5B Swiss franc ($5.5B) defense order, choosing the model over rivals from Dassault Aviation (DUAVF), Boeing (BA) and Eurofighter.Switzerland will buy 36 F-35As after an evaluation found the plane has "the highest overall benefit at the lowest overall cost," adding that the model was 2B Swiss francs cheaper than the next lowest bidder. The F35A is especially suited to an air policing role and has a high degree of survivability because it was designed to be especially difficult for enemies to detect, the government says. The government also says it will buy the Patriot anti-missile system from Raytheon Technologies ([[RTX]] +1.2%), beating competition from the Eurosam consortium.
