BNTX - Taiwan getting additional 10M BioNTech vaccine doses through tech companies
Just_Super/iStock via Getty Images In an unusual arrangement, Taiwan will receive an additional 10M doses of the BioNTech([[BNTX]] +4.6%)/Pfizer ([[PFE]] +0.9%) COVID-19 vaccine thanks to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company ([[TSM]] +2.3%) and Hon Hai Precision Industry Company ([[HNHAF]]). Hon Hai is better known as Foxconn. Under an agreement, Shanghai Fosun Pharmaceutical ([[SFOSF]]) will provide the doses to a drug distributor who will then sell them to the two tech companies as well as a private charity, who will then donate them to the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control. Taiwan's government has tried to buy the vaccines directly from BioNTech, but China has interfered with those deals from going through. Separately, Taiwan's government today said it would buy at least 15M next-generation Moderna ([[MRNA]] +0.0%) COVID-19 doses in 2022 and 2023, Bloomberg reported.
