DIS - TV networks demand audit of Nielsen over pandemic ratings measurement
TV networks are now calling for a third-party audit in their conflict with Nielsen Holdings (NLSN +0.7%) over counting ratings in the COVID-19 pandemic. The VAB - Madison Ave. representatives for CBS ([[VIAC]] -2.3%, [[VIACA]] -2.5%), NBC (CMCSA +2.1%), ABC (DIS -0.3%), Fox ([[FOX]] +2%, [[FOXA]] +1.9%) and other networks - is demanding that the ratings firm submit to an audit of its numbers from Ernst & Young, charging Nielsen with letting its ratings methodology degrade during the unprecedented national lockdown. E&Y will be tasked with verifying accuracy of ratings in the March 2020-March 2021 time period, and "the auditor will have the ability, autonomy and authority to create a recommendation that could include market-facing numerical adjustment factors," the VAB says. The trade group is asking for a response from Nielsen by Monday. It's the latest move in an increasingly public conflict; Nielsen last week stuck up for its ratings
