BZFD - Vox Media said in advanced talks to merge with Group Nine Media
Vox Media, the parent of New York Magazine, is said in advanced discussions to merge with Group Nine Media. The media companies are said to be talking about an all-stock deal that would give Vox Media 75% ownership of the combined entity, according to a WSJ report. Vox Media CEO Jim Bankoff would lead the combined company. Vox Media, which also owns websites the Verge, Eater and SB Nation, would be merging with Group Nine Media, known for websites Thrillist and The Dodo. A potential deal comes after the New York Times reported in late July that Vox Media was said to be considering several offers that would take the company public through a SPAC deal. A possible combination comes as competitor Buzzfeed's (NASDAQ:BZFD) deal to go public through a SPAC deal hasn't gone well so far, well at least as far as Buzzfeed's stock is concerned. BuzzFeed shares have dropped about 35%
