Searches on Google for Sam's Club fell 26% Y/Y and and for BBBY are down 23% Y/Y on a four-week moving average. "Google search trends can provide a window into how consumer interests (and spending) might be shifting in response to Covid/vaccine dynamics," write Baird analysts Peter Benedict and Justin Kleber. Companies with the hottest Y/Y search trends include Arhaus (NASDAQ:ARHS), +32%; Leslie's (NASDAQ:LESL), +24%; Freshpet (NASDAQ:FRPT), +20%; RH (NYSE:RH), +18%; and Chewy (NYSE:CHWY), +11%. Companies whose Y/Y search trends declined the most include Sam's Club (WMT), -26%; Golf Galaxy (NYSE:DKS), -25%; Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY), -23%; Traeger (NYSE:COOK), -21%; Walmart (WMT), -19%; Target (NYSE:TGT), -14%; BJ's Wholesale (NYSE:BJ), -13%; and Home Depot (NYSE:HD), -12%.
