Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) announced Tuesday palms to expand its telehealth service, Amazon Care, nationwide. The company originally launched Amazon Care in September 2019 to provide patient-centric health care to customers whenever and wherever they may need it. The program features virtual care visits as well as free telehealth consults and in-home visits with a fee from nurses.
“The expansion comes as we continue to invest in growing our clinical care team and our in-person care services to bring convenient, quality care to more customers across the U.S.,” the company said Tuesday.
The expansion, set to take place “throughout 2022” is currently available in Seattle, Baltimore, Boston, Dallas, Austin, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and Arlington, Va. “In 2022, we plan to bring in-person care services to more than 20 additional cities—including major metropolitan areas like San Francisco, Miami, Chicago, and New York City—so customers can access care where and when they need it most,” the company said.
Nevertheless, the company is up against several challenges as the virtual care space continues to expand and overcrowd.
According to Amazon Care, new customers for its 2022 virtual and in-person services include employers such as Silicon Labs, TrueBlue, and Whole Foods Market, which Amazon owns. Amazon revealed that the employers had been attracted to the telehealth’s comprehensive solution: “on-demand access to high-quality clinicians through Care Medical, Amazon Care’s clinical services provider; and a seamless patient experience.”
