The Emergency SOS satellite feature on the iPhone 14 range will now be available in more western European nations, according to a Tuesday announcement from Apple ( NASDAQ:AAPL ). The internet giant announced that the function will go live today in France, Germany, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. Next year, support for more nations is anticipated, according to Apple ( NASDAQ:AAPL ).
Apple ( NASDAQ:AAPL ) formally debuted the function in the United States and Canada last month. When a new iPhone 14 is activated, the service is free for two years; a price has not yet been disclosed.
The new capability, which was unveiled in September, enables iPhone users who are outside the reach of cell towers to connect to satellites by aiming their phone at the sky and at one of Globalstar’s (NYSE:GSAT) satellites.
With the majority of the funds coming to its partner, Globalstar (GSAT), which runs the satellites utilized for the service, Apple (AAPL) announced in November that it will invest $450M in U.S. infrastructure to launch the Emergency SOS messaging function.
