%Apple () is planning to move the placement of the button used to hang up a voice call as part of its latest upgrade to the iPhone’s software.
The change will be part of iOS 17 and is being billed by Apple as one of the biggest revamps to the iPhone in years.
The updated iPhone app will also include real-time voicemail transcriptions, new “contact posters” that let users choose a photo that shows up when they call another iPhone, and an updated user interface with bigger, bolder font.
However, the biggest change is being billed as Apple moving the “End Call” button on the iPhone to the lower right-hand corner from the bottom centre of the screen where it has previously resided.
Most people don’t yet have the iOS 17 operating system. It’s currently only available in Beta form. Apple plans to release it to the general public sometime this autumn after the new iPhone 15 hits stores.
This is not the first time that Apple has rearranged key buttons on the iPhone. In 2021, Apple changed its Safari browser to put the URL bar at the bottom rather than the top of the screen.
That change was met with some complaints and Apple eventually gave users an option to put the URL bar back on top of the Safari browser page.
Apple’s stock has risen 44% so far this year and currently trades at $179.80 U.S. per share.
