ArcelorMittal ( NYSE: MT ) said Friday it is investigating the cause of a fire that broke out at the largest blast furnace at its Dunkirk site in northern France that has halted production.
The company said it will wait for the results of the assessments before deciding on the timeframe for restarting the plant.
The unit has a capacity of ~3.6M metric tons/year, more than half of the site's installed capacity of 7M tons/year.
In the meantime, ArcelorMittal ( MT ) said it is running a single blast furnace at Dunkirk to reduce disruptions to customers.
The fire is the second in eight days to hit the company, after a blast furnace at its Asturias plant in Spain was damaged after a fire .
