Argo AI announced on Wednesday that it has established the Argo Safety Advisory Council comprising top experts and industry leaders in the fields of transportation, medicine, law enforcement, and cybersecurity.
The Argo Safety Advisory Council is expected to provide external strategic counsel on Argo's safety and security practices and policies, as well as ways to earn the public trust in autonomous vehicles with a goal to scale safely across multiple cities and countries.
The Council includes former Assistant Director of the FBI Christopher Doss, former Acting Administrator of the NHTSA David Kelly, and former Chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board Robert Sumwalt.
Argo said it continues to make progress on commercial deployment of autonomous vehicle products and services. It is currently operating consumer-facing services with Lyft ( LYFT ) and Walmart, and recently began driverless operations in Miami and Austin.
Major shareholders of Argo AI include Ford Motor Company ( NYSE: F ) with a 42% stake, Volkswagen Group ( OTCPK:VLKAF ) with a 42% stake, and Lyft ( LYFT ) with a position of 2.5%.
