MDPs: A Cure-All, or Just Unwarranted Hype?
CohBar (CWBR) was founded on the premise that dysfunctional mitochondria play a key role in regulating the driving forces behind age-related diseases. According to the thesis touted by the company, mitochondrially secreted peptides have cytoprotective and anti-inflammatory properties and even have the ability to regulate certain metabolic processes. However, as mitochondrial function declines with age, it is believed that MDPs are not secreted in sufficient quantities, thus leading to or contributing to the progression of diseases such as Alzheimer's, obesity, diabetes, and more.
