- Bell, wholly-owned by Canadian telecoms firm BCE ( NYSE: BCE ), has announced plans to launch Internet speeds and Wi-Fi technology of up to 8 gigabits per second in North America.
- The company claims that this will be the fastest of any speeds offered by any major provider. Bell also will bring Wi-Fi 6E technology, the fastest type available, for home customers. Wi-Fi 6E will support faster speeds and lower latency when used with compatible devices.
- The roll out will take place from September, with 8Gbps speeds to be made available in select Toronto areas first followed by other parts of Canada. The new Giga Hub supporting Wi-Fi 6E will first launch for customers in Ontario and Québec in the fall of 2022, followed by other provinces later on.
- This is part of Bell's fibre buildout in 2022, which it claims is its most aggressive ever with plans to reach up to 900,000 more homes and businesses across most of Canada with direct fibre connections. Bell is now in the second year of its two-year, $10B capital expenditure program to accelerate rollout of broadband fibre, 5G and rural networks.
