Bentley Motors (OTCMKTS: VWAGY) announced that it had sold a record number of luxury sedans and SUVs in 2021, despite the strong supply chain delays experienced throughout the automotive industry. Sales rose nearly a third as the company strives to electrify its whole range of vehicles.
In 2021, the motor vehicle manufacturer reported sales of 14,659 cars, an overall 31% increase compared to its previous sales record of 11,206 cars and SUVs within 2020. Bently’s best-seller is the Bentayga, amounting to 40% of the sales, with its Continental GT luxury grand tourer coming in second place.
“2021 was yet another year of unpredictability though I am delighted to be able to confirm that we overcame significant headwinds, and deliver a breakthrough in our sales performance,” Bentley CEO Adrian Hallmark said in a release. “This is our second record sales year in the successive years and is a positive sign of our brand strength, operational excellence, strong global demand, and affirmation of our strategic priorities.”
Amid the ongoing pandemic, there has been a continuous shortage of semiconductor chips. Nevertheless, Bently managed to reach record sales despite the global supply chain issues. According to Bently executives, the results can be attributed to its workforce and the measures implemented to continue production despite the pandemic and its consequences.
“These numbers are validation that we not only lead the sector in sales and market share but also investment in electric technologies and commitment to being the first fully electrified and zero-carbon luxury car company in the world,” Hallmark said.
