International Consolidated Airlines Group ( OTCPK:ICAGY ) was forced to delay and cancel numerous flights from the UK’s largest airport on Thursday and Friday due to technical problems.
The carrier was forced to cancel tens of departures from London’s Heathrow airport as a result of the outages, while also cutting some arrivals from its schedule. Further, many passengers were warned of delays in the fallout of the technical outage.
While the airline indicated it had found the root of the issue on Thursday evening, its replies to a flood of customer complaints cited ongoing technical problems as the driver of continued delays. The technical issue comes alongside a strike by Heathrow’s security staff over a wage dispute, due to last until Saturday.
The outage comes at a time of particularly high traffic for Heathrow given the spring bank holiday scheduled for Monday, matching up with the Memorial Day holiday in the US.
Shares of IAG ( OTCPK:ICAGY ) listed in London fell 1.03% in afternoon trading.
