CenterPoint Energy ( NYSE: CNP ) said on Thursday it is delaying retirement of a coal-fired power plant in Indiana, in the latest move by a U.S. utility to prolong the life of fossil-fuel assets.
According to Bloomberg, CenterPoint ( CNP ) plans to keep operating the 90 MW F.B. Culley 2 unit near the Ohio River until 2025, after previously expecting to shut the facility in 2023.
By prolonging the lifespan of Culley 2, CenterPoint ( CNP ) said it can ensure local electricity supplies and avoid buying more expensive power from rivals.
Citing uncertainty caused by the U.S. Commerce Department's investigation into solar panel imports, NiSource earlier this year delayed its retirement of an Indiana coal plant by an additional two years .
